The story is not really about witches at all – it is about the experience of journeying from childhood towards adulthood. Annabelle finds herself mysteriously estranged from the people who are supposed to care for her, as they vanish before her eyes and are replaced by a witch. By the end of the story Annabelle finds that the only person who has really changed is herself and, with the solidarity of her older sibling, Olivia, she is ready to find her place in the grown-up world.
This show deals with children's fear of isolation in a fantastical but often comic way. The show contains an evil witch and a couple of singing trolls – as well as nosey neighbours, and a curious band of police officers, social workers, doctors and school staff. There are also roles for younger actors. There is virtually no set needed for this show, but staging can be added to suit the needs of the performance space.
